I take Prozac for anxiety and worry. I have been on it years and thinking of asking to switch to another SSRI. I have heard they wear off after a time. Is Effexor good?
Answer:
Medication affects people differently. What worked for me may not work for you. Then there's allergies and side effects. So the only way you're going to know is to try it. If your Prozac is still working. You may not want to stop it yet.
There are other things you should be doing. Besides just relying on medication. Ask your counselor coping skills and research different techniques to help you deal with these issues. GL
Why switch? Try the Linden Method along with your Prozac. It's work but in the long run you will see that the Linden Method really works. Plus when you read it, it all makes so much sense. That is what I'm doing.
If it's still working, don't switch!
Effexor is pretty scary. It works, but... try searching the web for side effects and withdrawal symptoms.
i agree that if prozac is still working for you, dont make the switch. meds switches can be grueling and set you in a tailspin for a coupld weeks or possibly months.
dont fix whats not broke'
If the Prozac is working for you don't switch. You should only switch if it's not working. Effexor is good. But every med works differently on each person.
I'm more of a Prozac fan, but you may build a high tolerance. See a shrink for an expert opinion. Know lots of friends on Prozac still.
See how crazy it is?? Prozac is a strong antidepressor and was originally prescribed up to a month not more. Now those doctor are using it to treat anxiety?? please !! It is a market nothing more. Effexor is new and supposed to be better and more expensive of course.
Why not considering an herbal approach?
You have a lot of herbs that can treat anxiety.
Go to "whole food store" and ask them for a combination of herbs to treat your issue. Medications will give side effects and kill your liver in the long run , trust me on that.

yes effexor is a good medication for most people, i have taken both of these, and i find that they both work well. So people though have different reactions to the different medications. So just be careful, and if you have any side effects call the doctor that gave you the medication, and let them know how it is effecting you..
I was taking zoloft for my depression, but the anxiety didn't go. I'm about to start Effexor, so thanks to the other answerers for their advice. You don't want to go swapping medications just for the sake of it.
